Step-by-Step: Prepare Your SSC Photograph

  1. Open ImgPace and upload your scanned photo (drag & drop or click Browse).
  2. Switch to the Resize tool and click the Passport preset chip. This sets 276 × 354 px — equivalent to 3.5 × 4.5 cm at 200 DPI.
  3. Click Apply Resize, then switch to Compress.
  4. Select the ≤ 50 KB (Gov) chip and click Apply Compression. ImgPace auto-tunes JPEG quality until the file is under 50 KB.
  5. If the SSC portal also requests 200 DPI metadata, switch to Set DPI, enter 200, and click Apply DPI.
  6. Click the photo card's download icon (or Download ZIP for multiple files).

Step-by-Step: Prepare Your SSC Signature

  1. Sign on plain white paper with a black or dark blue pen and scan or photograph it clearly.
  2. Upload it to ImgPace and switch to the Crop tool.
  3. Select the 400 : 150 Signature aspect ratio, drag the box to enclose only the signature, then click Apply Crop.
  4. Switch to Resize, enter 600 × 150 px, and click Apply Resize.
  5. Switch to Compress, pick the ≤ 20 KB chip, click Apply Compression.
  6. Download and upload alongside the photograph on the SSC portal.

Common SSC Photo Upload Errors & Fixes

  • "File size too large" — Use the Compress tool with the 50 KB chip.
  • "Invalid dimensions" — Apply the Passport resize preset (276×354 px).
  • "File format not supported" — Use the Convert tool and pick JPEG.
  • "Background not plain" — Use the Background Fill tool to replace with solid white.
  • "Signature too large" — Crop with the 400:150 Signature ratio then compress to 20 KB.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum photo size allowed on the SSC online portal?
For SSC CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD and Stenographer the photograph must be between 20 KB and 50 KB in JPEG format, with 3.5×4.5 cm dimensions. A separate scanned signature (10–20 KB) is required.
Can I upload a WhatsApp or selfie photo for SSC CGL?
Technically yes — but the photo must look formal: plain light background, front-facing, head fully visible without cap or sunglasses. Use ImgPace to crop tightly to 3.5×4.5 cm and replace the background with solid white if needed.
Why does SSC reject my photograph even when the file is below 50 KB?
Common reasons: wrong dimensions (not 3.5×4.5 cm), low resolution after over-compression, non-JPEG format, or unclear face. ImgPace preserves 200 DPI metadata and resizes to exact pixel dimensions so the form passes validation.
Can I prepare multiple family members' SSC photos at once?
Yes — upload all photos together, apply the Passport preset, then the 50 KB compress chip. ImgPace processes each file simultaneously and packages them all into a single ZIP on download.
Is my photo uploaded to any server?
No. Every operation runs in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device — ideal for identity documents like SSC photos.
